While Chinese tattoo designs made up out of characters are quite popular and can be quite beautiful, there are a couple of things that you can keep in mind while you are getting them.
The first thing to do is to make sure that you know what your Chinese tattoo designs mean! I cannot emphasize this enough. Find a native Chinese speaker, or better yet, find a few, and make sure that your tattoo means exactly what you think it does. Do not think that just because you looked up the design on a piece of flash on the wall or on the internet that it is necessarily correct.
For instance, there have been cases where people end up with a horizontal line across the bottom of their tattoo, assuming it was part of the word; in actuality, this is the line that is used to to determine the orientation of the character!
